Master bedroom Vastu in a 2-bed rental: which room is the master?
“Wrong” by popular room charts. Couples were told to take SW; kids were told to avoid SW. Here the quiet, lockable room with the better blackout is NE. The SW room is brighter and noisier (street).

Does the master bedroom have to be southwest?
No. “Master bedroom in the southwest” is a popular room chart, not a line from the old building manuals. In a flat you rent, the room that sleeps best is the master: quiet, dark and lockable, whichever corner it’s in.
What the old building texts say about bedrooms
ClassicalBrihat Samhita puts “the room for the household utensils” in the southwest, not the master bedroom (53.118).
ClassicalMānasāra puts “the bedrooms of all” in the Satyaka or Antariksha squares (36.37). On its plan grid both sit on the east side, south of the middle (7.97–99, 7.134–136), not in a southwest “master” corner.
These texts describe plots and houses being built. They don’t rank the rooms of a finished two-bed flat.
Where the southwest-master rule comes from

A kids’ room in the southwest?
It’s fine. A bright, noisier southwest room suits a child’s bed and desk, or a home office. Put the heavy wardrobe on the solid wall and keep the bright corner open, so the room stays light and easy to use.
Which way should the bed face?
South or east, if the room allows; if the only solid wall points another way, sleep there. The full answer is on everyday habits.
Sleep quality assigns the master. The compass chart does not.
